As a chamber artist, Christine performs as a member of The Impromptu Duo with oboist, Michelle Vigneau and the duo, Zephyrus, with percussionist, Tomm Roland. This duo has toured across the Midwest and was also featured at the 2012 College Music Society National Convention, the 2011 NACWPI conference at the University of Florida, and at the 2011 Festival of New American Music at Sacramento State University. Zephyrus also served as a guest artist at the 2012 World Flutes Festival in Mendoza, Argentina and will return to Mendoza in May 2012 for events at the National University of CUYO. In addition to an active tour schedule, the duo is currently making plans to record their first CD in 2013-2014.

Christine is the Piccolo Artist for Gemeinhardt Flutes and in that role has presented piccolo clinics and lecture-recitals at state music conferences and flute festivals across the U.S. She has lectured at the International Wind Music History Symposium (2006) and the American Musical Instrument Society International Conference at Yale (2007). A contributing editor for The Flutist Quarterly, her pedagogical articles and columns have been published in Flute Talk, The Flutist Quarterly, Flutewise (UK), and The Instrumentalist. Her arrangement of Eugene Damare's "The Wren Polka" for solo piccolo and band has enjoyed performances across the U.S. and Europe.

In 2007, Christie founded the bi-annual International Piccolo Symposium, an intense 4 day workshop held every other year at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The goal of IPS is to bring piccolo players and enthusiasts together from all over the world to learn about and discuss solo, chamber and orchestral music featuring the piccolo, and pedagogical issues specific to the piccolo, led by some of the world's leading piccolo players (see http://www.youtube.com/ipsorg or www.piccolosymposium.com).

Dr. Beard earned her MM and DMA in flute performance from The University of Texas at Austin (1998, 2003). She joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002 where she teaches applied flute, chamber music, and serves as Coordinator of Woodwind Studies. In her spare time, she serves as the creator/webmaster for PiccoloHQ.com. She is married to Michael R. Beard, who is currently Director of Bands at Iowa Western Community College.

Bio for Christie Beard
Described by critics as "masterful" and "evocative," flutist Christine Erlander Beard is constantly in demand as a soloist, chamber artist, and clinician. Quickly achieving international recognition as a performer and advocate for the piccolo, she has performed extensively across the U.S. and Europe. including nine of the previous eleven conventions of the National Flute Association (2002-2012); the 2011 European Piccolo Festival in Slovenia; the 2010 International Flute Festival in France; and two British Flute Society International Conventions (2008, 2012). Her flute festival appearances include St. Louis, Philadelphia, Alabama, Iowa, Vermont, Hot Springs (AR), and Emporia State University. Upcoming engagements include invitations to appear as a guest artist at both the International Flute Festival in Costa Rica (2013) and the Canadian Flute Convention (2013).
