Her pedagogical articles and columns have been published in Flute Talk, the Flutist Quarterly, Flutewise, and The Instrumentalist, and her arrangement of Eugene Damare's “Le Roitelet” ("The Wren Polka") for solo piccolo and band has enjoyed performances across the U.S. and Europe.

Dr. Beard earned her MM and DMA in flute performance from The University of Texas at Austin (1998, 2003) where she was a student of Karl F. Kraber. She joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2002 where she teaches applied flute, chamber music, and serves as Coordinator of Woodwind Studies. In 2003, she co-founded the Nebraska Flute Club and also established the Heartland Community Flute Choir in Omaha which has since been selected to perform at two Nebraska Music Educators Association conferences (2004, 2006) and the 2008 National Flute Association Convention in Kansas City. In her spare time, she serves as the webmaster for PiccoloHQ.com.
